Abstract—Altruistic behavior has been found to positively affect child development, well-being, and later success. Although Japanese early childhood education has unique methods of effectively educating on altruistic behavior, they are based on philosophy and customs, yet to be fully scientifically validated. This article examines the grounds for some Japanese methods of inculcating altruistic behavior based on an analysis of some practices in Japanese kindergartens. The results conclude that Japanese teaching customs have logically verifiable grounds, and can further promote the physical and mental health and the positive development of young children, and effectively in various early childhood education settings, both in Japan and overseas.

Keywords—Japanese early childhood education, altruistic behavior, logically verifiable grounds
