Abstract—This research analyzes and classifies the curriculum ideological and political elements in PEP High School English Compulsory Textbooks (2019) according to the General Framework of Core Literacy for Chinese Students' Development based on the core socialist values. It is found that high school English textbooks contain rich ideological and political elements, but their distribution is uneven in the classification system adopted in this research, with the highest proportion of 50% in the category of social participation and relatively fewer of 27.5% in cultural foundation and 22.5% in independent development. The number of the ideological and political elements contained in each textbook is roughly the same, but the elements reflected in the reading texts of each unit in Compulsory 2 and Compulsory 3 vary in number. Based on the above findings, this research presents some implications for textbook compilation and teaching practice.
