Research on the Application of ICT in Teaching through Technological Pedagogical Knowledge (TPACK) of Visual Arts Teachers in the South of Vietnam

Abstract—Currently, when the development of science and technology has made great strides and the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic causes many economic, social, and educational damages, the integration of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in education is a topic of special attention. In Vietnam, ICT is increasingly integrated into the education system at all levels. In the context of changing curricula and the application of ICT in the education system, teachers of Visual Arts are encouraged to optimize the application of ICT in teaching. This study used the TPACK questionnaire to explore the relationship between professional knowledge and the ability of visual arts teachers to apply ICT in teaching to improve their teaching ability for arts teachers in the South of Vietnam. Responses of the questionnaire were received from 139 participants on the seven components of TPACK. Research results show that arts teachers in the southern Vietnam can apply ICT to visual arts teaching. At the same time, there are differences in the level of ICT application by gender. After that, data from an interview with 5 participants were collected to understand more about the factors which can affect the integration of ICT into teaching of Visual Arts Teachers (VATs). From the results, the need to provide courses to improve the level of ICT and the application of ICT in teaching will support the teaching of visual arts teachers in Vietnam more effectively.
