The Education Managers' Competencies in the 21th Century from the School Principals' Viewpoint in Tehran

Abstract—The study is carried out with the aim of determining the competencies needed by the education managers on the basis of survey. The statistical population includes all the principals in Tehran elementary schools, guidance schools, high schools and pre-university schools in the school year of 2009-2010 which is 3412. The sample contains 346 who have been selected by the random and stratified sampling on the basis of sample size Morgan's table. The means for gathering data is a questionnaire that its validity is confirmed by 35 experts. In addition, the reliability of this questionnaire is also calculated on the basis of Cornbach Alpha which is 78 %. The results of the data analysis show that the most important competencies needed by the education managers in the 21th century are: management and leadership competencies, social competencies, technological competencies, individual competencies, economical competencies, business competencies, Spiritual, moral and religious competencies, research competencies, environmental competencies, global and international competencies, political and cultural competencies. The obtained results in this study about the competencies required by the education managers in the 21th century have a high reliability and its application is recommended to all the managers.
